She briefly was a music theory student at Middle Tennessee State University, however, she chose to focus on Evanescence in her first year of college. Lee as well as Ben Moody co-founded Evanescence, the rock group. After Moody was able to see Lee perform "I'd do Anything to Love (But not This)" at an event for youth, Moody decided to meet Lee. They began performing sets of acoustic music in Arkansas cafes and book shops within one month. The first album of the band, Fallen, was released in 2003, after having made their own album.
